Thanks Leiven.
Do you have a way to do an A/B recording of the two mics while the guitar is playing? I'd be very interested to hear the difference in bleed between the two.

I already noticed that you need to be closer to the 55 then the 58

The sensitivity between the two is slightly different:

58 Sensitivity
–54.5 dBV/Pa (1.85 mV)
1 Pa = 94 dB SPL

55 Sensitivity
−53.0 dBV/Pa (1.85 mV)
1 Pal=94 dB SPL

Proximity will significantly change signal/noise ratio.. I suspect that if you're closer up on the 55 that it might have a lot to do with the reduction in bleed.

I was looking at that Super 55 sensitivity, not the SHII. That's quite a difference. Yeah, reducing the sensitivity and the proximity would make a difference in the bleed. The gain is going to be made up for at the pre though.. I have a feeling the bleed reduction is the result of closer proximity. Unless you're recording (with isolation) and looking for the sweet spot for the mic.. closer proximity is nearly always better for live. The lows from the proximity can be eq'd out if need be, but the bleed can't be removed. There's also more gain before feedback with closer proximity.

Yes, I would suspect they are not making up gain.... other than by proximity....

That's what I was mentioning above with the dB figures... you could reason out from specs 4 to 8 to maybe even 10dB but I failed to mention that provided they don't make that gain up except by his actually proximity and use of the mic then it could make a difference.

IOW, there are enough subtle difference that if things are just right.

58 - flat from 1K down and rolls at 100

55 - scooped a bit from 1K down and rolls at 200

Would be interested to hear the difference between the two using the same proximity.

TB, I was looking for the slots that are at the top of the 55SH, I don't see those in the Miley Cyrus video. It also seems a little rounder.

Oh no, they are clearly there. I can see them easily. Same with the Keys players. Just play it at full screen.

Maybe that's the 55 Super or whatever it's called but it's a 55. Even the nut and washer on the side can be seen,

The guys showing their emotions were the remaining members of Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant was brought to tears. A couple things that were very kewl about that performance are that their deceased drummer; John Bonham's Son was was playing his dad's drum kit. The hats that were worn were a tribute to the the bowler hat that John Bonham often wore. It must have been quite emotional for them all.. especially when the curtain was raised revealing the choir all wearing the bowler hats. Epic performance! And phenomenal production.

Yeah, he's been doing it for years.. I saw him in around 81. Some of my friends know him well. Off-stage he's apparently very normal and a really nice person.

These are the guys with ribbons....

This is the "Chinese guy"...

...as a side note...
(The value of his instrument makes a collection of the finest vintage guitars seem like chump change.)
