More songs / artists?
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:51:14 pm »
I'm working my way through the Solo Blues set of DVD's and really enjoy playing the tunes.  I'm not a singer so it's nice to have this type of Solo playing under my fingers.

I'm not that familiar with the genre - can someone give me some names of artists (Chet Atkins comes to mind) of people I can look up / get tabs so that I can continue adding these types of songs to my guitar study?

thanks!

Here's a list that'll get you started - http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the-25-best-blues-guitarists-of-all-time-264246/30. There are names missing (Bill Broonzy for one) and it ranks them - which is a bit of a waste of time - but it'll put you on the road.

Thanks for the links - checking them out know.

I am very familiar with the blues genre - I have been listening to the blue for a very long time and actually play the blues / improvise reasonably well.

The sub-genre I am light on is the finger picking / thumb on the base line.  Almost blending into folk or bluegrass.  That's where I need to find new artists / tunes.

If that's the case (sorry - I didn't understand you correctly first time round) look around for Steffan Grossman

and check out David Hamburger's instructional videos. He has courses on Truefire, but there's a number of his lessons on Youtube.

Is that the kind of thing that interests you?

Lightnin' Hopkins indeed. And definitely R.L. Burnside...
