Richie Havens tuned to Drop D. I'm pretty sure everything he did was in it.

Richie Havens tuned to Drop D. I'm pretty sure everything he did was in it.
  Open D (D A D F# A D) was his primary tuning, sometimes with variations like tuning the F# down to to E to get a minor.

One I just learned is the cover of Hard Time Killing Floor Blues by Chris Thomas King, originally by Skip James. I've always loved the song from O Brother Where Art Thou and decided to give it a shot, first time I used open D and loved it!
