Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Pickups

I have been considering putting in a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup into my ESP LTD M350. I have read up on the pickups and noticed that there are differences between the neck and bridge position pickups. My ESP has 3 pickup positions, with the neck and bridge positions being humbucker sized, and the middle pickup being single coil sized. Since the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails are specific for neck or bridge positions, will it still have the same effect on tone if I put it in the middle position on my guitar?

The neck version of the SHR-1 is also meant to be installed in the middle position. That's what Seymour Duncan says on their webpage.

Available for both bridge and neck/middle positions.

What do you mean by "...will it still have the same effect on tone..."? What are you expecting? It will definitely sound different in the middle position than in the neck position.
