What's with the thumb strumming stop?  I play a little banjo and the idea there is to bounce of the string.  Is it muting or a way to fix the fingers to get the 2nd string on the up strum?

I'm a beginner but I'm trying to learn this song because I really like it. I learned the chord sequence, the strumming pattern and the intro but the Em7 that is giving me some trouble. It seems like I cannot place the little finger correctly. The string buzzes and it doesn't sound right.

In the video lesson, Justing places the finger it much closer to the fret but I just cannot do that. Are there specific exercise I can do?

Thank you
