Careful with literal translation
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:06:06 pm »
Hey guys, I often see literal translation when I review french subtitles...
Lots of time it's not necessary to transcribe everything Justin is saying !

For example, the expression "kind of" is often used when speaking out loud, but there's no need to write "en quelque sorte" in the french translation ! I mean sometimes it's useful, but that's our work to us, humans, to discern when we need to translate it or not.
Or when we see what we wrote in french sounds weird, well, let's find a correct common way to rephrase the sentence, instead of translating everything litteraly...

Thanks for the good work, let's get it done !
