Hi Justin  :D,

I have problems getting the strumming pattern for this song. Could please let me know the strumming in terms of up-down, up-down sequence??

Thanks,
Baazi

@Baazi,  When Justin says 1+2+3+4+, that translates into DUDUDUDU.  Down on the numbers and Up on the "+"'s.

The first pattern he shows at 5:18 in the video is 1+2+3+4+, which is just a DUDUDUDU strumming pattern.  (Sounds like there's an emphasis on the down strums.)  The second pattern he shows is 1 2+3 4+, which is a D DUD DU pattern.

Hope that helps.   :)

I still can't figure out what the first strumming pattern Justin was using, he said "1 and 2 and 3 and 3," and I tried DUDUDUDU, but the sound is the same.
Has anyone succeeded in making the same sound?

The first strumming pattern at 5:20 is all down DDDDDDD with accents on 2 and 4 and he throws in the odd
up strum.

Can you explain the idea in another way that is easier to understand, so what does it mean by "accents on 2 and 4, and he throws in the odd up strum." I'm sorry, this is not my first language.
Thanks ^^

The beat is 1&2&3&4&  the strumming pattern is DDDDDDDD the accent on beat 2 and for just means he
strums a little louder. He also says in the video you can use almost any strumming pattern you want to.

How far along are you in Justin's Beginner Course?

I'm so sorry for this... 2 month-late reply. Just forgot about it.
I am practicing the big F chord. And then somehow I saw this song with only D Am D and C, and I go for it.

Can anyone help with the picking pattern Justin suggests 5:50 into the video? Thank you

Ando

There's no real pattern apart from hitting the bass note of each chord and picking on 1+2+3+4+. In the BSB Justin says 'pick out four note at random', So for the chords pick Bass 2 3 4 and just pick any string for the 2 3 4. That's what he seems to be saying and playing  8)

He's just hitting the lowest note of each chord and improvising the rest 8)

[no question, just a remark if your lost]
Justin plays different chords at the intro then the book.
The book says: |G C| D C| G C| D C|.  Justin plays |G Am| C D| G Am| C D| similar to the verse.
Actually he plays  |G Am| C   D Dsus4| G Am| C D|
