Got it. I should probably check my "amateur covers" collection. Some people out there have really decent sound for bedroom recording, and they'll probably have no trouble telling me what they use.

From that I can tell, Latch Lake is a tad rich for my blood (I'd say by about 700% ;)) But it's okay, my K&M does fine with all other mics. And whenever I use that lead brick, I  don't need to extend the boom that much anyway. And as you said, there's always DIY...

I used to usually use AKG 451 CK1.

Both my CAD M179 and Oktava MK-319 are heavy mics and one of them has made my stand tip over. Now I just keep the mic close to the stand's center point if I'm using a boom. Sometimes I'll even take the boom off completely and screw the shockmount directly to the stand (which is still extendable in height).
Guitar, banjo, mandolin and piano, bass and percussion only when needed

They're a bit spendy, but they work well for many things. I used them on piano, overhead mics, hi-hat, etc.. If you can find an affordable pair on ebay and have other uses it might be worth it.... But ya might have to search for a while to find a deal..
