Yes, 'til tomorrow is exceptional and great. For me and anyone that has loved and lost, Empty Chairs is the one that cuts to the bone. Castles In The Air is some pretty good writing as well. Thanks for making me think about Don McLean's great work -- a truly under appreciated artist. American Pie the song though, is a bit shopworn.

I'll be honest, American Pie is really the only DM song I had heard.    I've heard of Vincent but I don't know it.

This is a beautiful song, thank you.  I'm going to go on a Don McLean discovery myself once I'm finished with Till Tomorrow!

I have one to share myself an Australian brothers group.  Next post.  Thanks hilts.

So from the time I listened a lot to Don McLean, the best record performance from him was Mountains of Mourne. Lovely Irish melody with reworked Lyrics. Don’t know what McLean added to the composition. I like the “Irishness” of it, but I’m not Irish and true Irish May chastise me for saying so. So I’ll apologise in advance. A nice little story in the lyrics that keeps me interested. I think I’m going to have a go at this song now that I’ve recalled it.

I’ve heard McLean doesn’t tour the U.K. anymore(?) and doesn’t “engage” with his audience? Perhaps he’s being maligned, I don’t know.

I found a live T. V.  Performance of Mountains of Mourne from 1974 or 72 maybe anyway.  That's a great song and Don McLean is a great performer and guitar player.   Who knew?  Lol probably everyone but me.   I was playing along with him.

The Teskey Brothers for your enjoyment.   Grab a drink or cup of tea or whatever and take a listen to these brothers from Australia.  The song is called crying shame.   The singer has a voice that will take you back.   Take a listen.  If you like a bit of soul and blues , you'll love these guys.

Alex, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Great soulful voice. That's what I love about this thread. I get to discover some great bands and singers that I otherwise would miss out on. I'm leaving today on a week-long motorcycle trip but after that, I will explore more of these guys. Thanks!

Glad you liked them, I'm looking forward to going to a gig but I checked and they're in the U.S for a tour for a while.   Yeah I need to go back through the the thread.  You're right  though it's a great source of new music .  Don McLean is a great musician, I am really getting into his music, thanks for posting that. cheers.   Enjoy your ride, sounds awesome!

Sitting here at work (finished early) on a rainy Friday afternoon and started
thinking of musicians that I've enjoyed listening to who have passed away.
Not only did he influence me but Elton John took his first name as his last
name. Elton John and Rod Stewart both played in his band when they where
young and most people have never heard of Long John Baldry.
First time I saw him in concert was in '79 with Kathi McDonald. They had a
Hit together with You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
She's no longer with us anymore either.

Stitch they are both very cool.  Loving feeling is just one of those songs I've always loved but never knew where it originated.   I did not expect that voice to come out of that man but soon as he opened his mouth I just drifted away.  Correct me if I'm wrong but Tom Cruise sung that in the bar to the hot blonde 'instructor' in Top Gun?

What is this Booogee Wooogeee  music then?     What a jam,  so dam cool.  Thanks for those.   Long John Baldry kinda flew under the radar,  but something tells me that's how he lived.   Reading some comments on that vid, he seemed like a guy you'd like to have a beer with.  In fact several of the people commenting did.    One guy moved his piano and LJB paid him in hashish.    my kinda guy!   Thanks for these,  and the background, very cool.

Glad you liked them.
The Righteous Brothers where the first to put You've Lost That Loving Feeling
out in 1964. I had to look that up  ;D but many people have done remakes over
the years.
Long John and Kathi did a remake in 1979 and it went to #2 in Australia in the
same year. I had to look that up to :)
She has a very powerful voice in concert you can feel it in your chest when she
sings.

I do believe Tom Cruise did sing that in top gun. I'll have to look that up too. :)

Hey Stitch thanks old man for making an old man feel well old. Great share of some LBJ classics. Reminded me of better times, when the world was a better place. Thanks for sharing  8)

And as Monty Python used to say, now for something completely different.

Those that have known me here for a good few years, may recall that I used to rock my daughter to sleep with a bit of Deep Purple, Sabbath and Led Zep - well lets face it lots to be honest. So did she really stand a chance of growing up liking pop and middle of the road music? You bet your sweet butt NO. And that's ace as every now and then we share songs we find and they normally have a little attitude.

So where am I going with this ? The track below arrived by Whatsapp or Wazzup as we call it (grand kids suitably educated to that). So I thought wtf ? Listened and was blown away, its just so familiar and yet so different. Won't be everyone's cup of java but hey Mongolian Metal gotta be worth a post. Its not just the solid rock back beat that keeps it moving along but the unusual instruments and their awesome sound IMHO. Not being a native Mongolian speaker, heck I struggle with French and some would say the English of my birth but the vocals carry so much power and resonance, actually reminds me a bit of Rammstein.

Now I would have thought Mongolia was absorbed by China long ago but looking into these guys, I found the country's President in not only into bikes but into Harley's and supports the countries biking community. Man's that's got to be a first as most politician want to legislate us off the road - sorry mods for that minor political indiscretion but it so unusual.

Anyway here's another couple their tracks to keep you interested. If Brexit gets us booted outa France I'm off to Mongolia, would have been Canada but too cold for the missus.

Found this interesting musically as their traditional modernised instruments have a familiar western Celtic feel and the vocals have an aboriginal feel to them, like  a vocal didgeridoo.

After all these years Genghis Khan is alive and well, his spirit lives on in their music.

Toby

Here's one that can probably only be appreciated properly by the Dutch and Afrikaans speakers here :
Stef Bos - Sout van die Aarde https://open.spotify.com/track/39eFjPE2nxsZi7rHibRQ7b

And one in English for the progressive metal fans :
Sons of Apollo - Alive https://open.spotify.com/track/1FnVEZMDmacCPj8r8CG5Ac?si=WNjtEVGCQY-QuXfT2-tYyw

Also, a 'country' tune (of sorts) for those who like that sort of thing (and for the Archer fans):
Cherlene (Jessy Lynn Martens) with K-Log (Kenny Loggins) - Dangerzone https://open.spotify.com/track/7vLGA5esH3V5STRGXw83wP?si=1blAGBaPS2qH58w2WvQGyQ

And one just because I can (and because we've been singing it with the Shanty Choir) :
Sean Dagher - Star of the County Down https://open.spotify.com/track/1VvrPTVRMUa1aJF2xN6VgK?si=2SFs13aUT3-qh-cLkTEHNA

@ DavidP : Interesting thing happened;
I was listening to the first tune I linked to, navigated to this thread, saw your video, so I paused Stef Bos, listened to Piet instead...
And then out of the blue, around 2:55 of Goeie Nag, Generaal, I see a poster featuring Stef Bos appear on screen :)
