If you own a les paul (or copy)...
« on: July 31, 2011, 12:05:50 am »
I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, recommend the SD Slash Sig pickups!!

what a difference they make.. got them yesterday and installed them in my 1990 Les paul studio and wow...
it's got that crisp bite without giving up tone or lows getting muddy on the bridge side and a deep rich but yet crisp tone on the neck side...
you can dial in Slash's tone almost to a tee with these babies(studio is 1/8th in thinner so the tone is slightly more deeper)...

great, great set of pickups...

Meh.
I'll stick with my Rebel Yells and Cold Sweats.

I've put these Slash signatures into 3 Les Pauls so far and i can't say it makes any of the owners sound any more like the dude than any other overwound Alnico 2 pickup, tbh.

I had a non slash sig alnico pro II... there was definitely a difference in tone between them.. the low end was a lot more muddied on the bridge side...
and of course ti will not make someone SOUND like him..lol.. but is goes a long way to getting his tone... especially when teamed up with a silver jubilee

I wouldn't buy the pickups. Slash is way to over rated.

Im sure they are really good pups, just as the slash sig guitar and amp, but it's just so expensive because Slash has his name on it :/
Would really like to try those pups one day though!
But I tried the AFD guitar through an AFD amp. Surprise: I didnt sound like Slash! :P

original plan was : going from alnico V buckers ; does that mean that, even though you probably had thight output pickups you wanted tighter and more powerful pickups? I think an alnico II isn't goign to satisfy that need.
(Dan , correct me if I'm wrong)

No lieven, you are mostly correct.
Although an Alnico 2 can be made very hot by overwinding the pickup, no one in their right mind would ever do that.

@ Curry chips 97 : make a new thread, explain what you want to achieve through those new pickups, and who knows, maybe you'lll get some useful info  ;)

Im just not satisfied with the sound that i get from the V's. Its not the thick, chunky, heavy sound i want and it gets slightly too mudy for my liking. So i want pickups that give me a heavyer, thicker sound and dont get mudy, if you know wat im trying to say

Sounds to me like you need to go listen to some soundclips here, the ones from under the 'contemporary' heading should offer some insights : http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/

How long have you been using them, Dan?

I ask because whenever I've heard a clip of you playing, there has been a "something" in your tone that I really really liked.
Now that I listen to the samples of that pickup I hear that "something" again.

Did you have that pickup when you did that vid of the blakstar-pedal??

Yes markus.
And even before that.
These pickups are what defines my tone in any video.
They are VERY biting and sharp though, be prepared for that.
Hell, if you get to play in Holland anytime soon i'll bring my guitar so you can give it a go, you'll understand once you play them.

What do you mean? Like I would want to turn presence/treble down on my amp?

Would love to come to Holland, but it won't been anytime soon unfortunatly

You'd need less treble and presence, most likely.

Actually sounds like it will make my les paul fit better with my other guitar then.

It's quite expensive though. I'm gonna have to live on noodles a couple of months.

I really miss the time when I sat with my roland cube 30 and was satisfied with my tone
