Great Riff!

I hate to ask about tone, but as i'm just nearing the end of your beginner's course i don't have much experience with pedals (I have none yet) and i'd love to know how you get such great sound for these songs/rifs. This one in particaular sounded spot on to my untrained ears and i'd love to know what effects you used to get such a perfect sound.

If this is the wrong place to ask I apologize in advance, just had to finally ask after listening to this great riff.

Larry Carlton played Deluxe set on about 3. Right where it played clean but when dug in it would just start to break up.

Somewhere on Youtube or Truefire is a video of him showing the and playing the amp to demonstrate.

So it's a clean tweed Fender sound. However you can figure to do that.
