I enjoyed that one Ragz. Nice one fella.

I thought the vocals were a bit on the quiet side though. I couldn't pick out your lyrics mate.

Are you having a joke at my expense? lol the vocals are louder than the rest i thought

Nah not at all mate. Just played it again and realised that my left speaker is playing up. Moved it around a bit and now it's actually sounding out.  :D. It seems most of the volume on your vocals is coming through there. Nice song.

yeah, i mix it to put my vocals on the left and move the guitar over to the right a bit. I always liked that old 60's style recording process where they used to do that on almost every song ever recorded. (or all the ones i always listened to at any rate)

Ragz that is really good. Not sure how I missed this one.

Your vocal is competing for front and center though. I think the reason you feel like your lead is too bright is because the vocal is dark. There is no presence on the vocal and when it comes in the rhythm is still very clear and up front.

What kind of mic are you using?

Really nice tune though. Very pleasing manner to it.

yup top job, not what I would expect at all from your old avatar ( which is of course how I picture everyone ;))

cant really add anything, just wanted to say well done ;)

actually maybe try doubling the vocal or something. just to sort of mimic the delay you got on the guitar.

I still think it sounds like Neil Young, but after a couple more listens I think the way you play rhythm guitar reminds me of John Lennon. My guess is you were influenced by the Beatles. Although none of their songs immediately jumps to mind. Of course, the Beatles influenced Neil Young, Fairport Convention and REM.

If I knew how to import it into my BR600 thingy, I'd do a bass line for that.  I'm not great at picking out chord tones by ear so I'd need the progression.

It does remind me of Neil Young.

the mic is my Shure SM57. I used it for both vocals and the guitar
It's the only one i have that i like now. Still getting used to it though.
Glad you liked the tune though.

I like a broad spectrum of music, DC, so don't let my old avatar mislead you. But punk and metal were my main types of music back in the 80's and late 70's. Only as i got a little older did i start taking off the blinkers and realising there's so much more music out there.

I was toying with adding a backing vocal track to parts of the song as it goes. I'll see how it turns out :)

Thanks LnK. Glad you liked it.

I grew up hearing the Beatles a lot, but they weren't my main influence. Not intentionally at least. I'll reveal at the end of the post. However, what i like seeing is what this song makes people think of musically. It's interesting to see.

Big Star?

Yes, i would say they're big. although i've loved them from their beginnings.

It does remind me of Neil Young.

I will pm you the chord progression. i don't have anything tabbed out as i just played it by ear and have a really bad habit of never writing anything down :)
Would love to hear what you can do with it.

I think it sounds like Ragz!

Is that good or bad? lol. Personally i think it's good, as it means it's recognisable.

and the influence that i found came through most in the song was mainly due to the way i used the effects on the guitar parts. It instantly made me think of The Cure and their sound. Specifically fat Bob's sound and his use of effects. I listen to that band every day and will never grow tired of them.

Ah! Man, I would never have guessed the Cure.

Hey shoot me a copy of the chords too. I've got to do a little soldering on my bass this weekend. I might take a stab at it too.
