collaborative song?
« on: January 05, 2011, 09:14:34 pm »
has it ever tried to be done here?

one user does an intro and posts it, then a bunch of people continue the song, then the starting user picks the next part they like. they repost the combined two parts of the song and then the contest for the next part of the song will commence, leaving the two people already in the song to collectively deciede what part goes best with it????

it could be epic, im prolly just dreaming tho..... if people are serious i'll post a nice original intro into soundcloud with the chords and key im using and post it

I once made a backingtrack and put on lead gutiar on 50% of it so people could "jam" with me, turned out pretty cool with those who tried! its alot of fun! go ahead! :)

I have a first suggestion:

Can it be a bit longer than :24 seconds?

loop it yourself to make it 48, or 1:12

its an intro, download it, add something if you care to, and if you want to know what im playing so its easier to jam with, ask.

well, a time signature would be useful. how many bpm's is it played at?

Sounds like you were not playing with a metronome, so its maybe hard to answer that? I could be wrong though.
nice chords though. Ill maybe try to do something later :)

if you guy have a daw you can put it in there and time stretch it to whatever temp you want..... if i find the time today i will do this myself..... i just figured if you had the recording equipment to add the next stage youd just clean it up yourself

I think you should have.....

A. Made a Click Track for others even if you are unable to play in time.
B. Present some thoughts about your progression such as Key and general style.
C. -Not- require others to figure out what chords you are playing. ( some can and some can't but why list chords and then say they aren't even the correct ones and everyone needs to PM you to figure it out!?)
D. If indeed your part is loopable, you should provide a loop because not everyone knows how to do that.
E. If yours is truly an intro you should have mentioned that. That further complicates things.

If you are going to start something ( which is a good idea, btw ) it makes no sense to do it half way because that basically requires everyone to second guess what's going on.

Just start simply. It could be a s simple as 1 chord with a really funky rhythm. But do it in time. Someone might hear that one chord and hear a melody. someone else might hear another chord or two. So with those three little things you have Rhythm, Harmony and Melody which you can continue to develop into an extended song.

Do it like it counts.
