I'm not the brightest and since no one has brought this up it's probably just me.  But I keep looking at example 3 and thinking the tab is wrong to the sheet music.

I have my glasses on and the music sheet say G,D,G,D,B,D,G,D, right so let's see if the board will let me type out the tab the way I see it.

I keep thinking it's got to be me, but I know how to read sheet music, tab not so much.

I think you've spotted a mistake...

I make the sheet music : G-D-G-D B-G-D-G

The TAB doesn't make sense because it shows the same notes for both halves of the bar.

I think the tab to match the notation should be:

Code: [Select]
e------------------
B----------0-------
G------0-----0---0-
D----0---0-----0---
A------------------
E--3---------------

But that doesn't make much sense either if the pattern is supposed to have a bass note on 1 & 3.

I suspect that the B should be a low G which would make the TAB:

Code: [Select]
e------------------
B------------------
G------0-----0---0-
D----0---0-----0---
A------------------
E--3-------3-------

If I'm right. (I'm still on IM2, though ;) )

I think you're right someone put up the right tab with the wrong notation.   He is talking about the base note, that music notation is from figure 1.  So I'm not so dim after all.

I just kept thinking I wasn't getting something.

Yep - that's what we call in the business a stupid mistake cos of copy and paste :)

I'll get onto fixing it at some point, but re-doing the tabs is a PITA so it might be a while...

lots of spelling mistakes on that page too now corrected!! must have been very tired that day...

Cheers, J.

Sorry about that Justin.

I watched the DVD for lessons 5 the other day, and wrote down my notes on what to practice.  Then when I went to practice I didn't understand what I had written down.  (if I only had a brain)  I figured I just check the website, to refresh my memory.

Some days I'm amazed I can make it out of bed OK.

Questions...

Lesson Link: http://www.justinguitar.com/en/IM-156-PickedFingerstyle.php

Hello,

One question:  After finishing this lesson on Picked Fingerstyle, are we expected to be able to traverse this pattern while playing a song without looking at our picking hand?  I'm not sure what Justin's expectations are before proceeding to the next lesson...

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm not struggling particularly with this lesson as I am able to do the picking pattern without problems. But I do struggle with what comes next: applying the pattern to the picked strumming, which is demonstrated by Justin in the intro to this video. In other words: how to you get from picking the pattern to the strummy pattern in which you hear the individual notes? Any time I try to do the transition  I mess up the pattern and everything starts to sound muddy...

Any hint highly appreciated!  :)
