The 1, 4, 5 or I, IV, V refers to the chords in a key and is a sequence often used in blues.  So in the key of A the chords would be A (I), D (IV) and E (V) or A7, D7, E7.

I see  :-) Choose a root note (1st note, e.g. A1) and then the Blues is made up of the root note (A), the 4th and 5th note in sequence starting from A, which is D (4) and E (5).
