you can get mp3 on the DVD - otherwise it's play them on soundcloud for now.

Go to the lesson page (link in 1st post) and scroll right down to the bottom of the page and there is a link to a pdf file of the answers.

What do the vertical lines above each note in the TAB notation mean? I didn't see anything referencing this in the linked refresher on TAB.

Thanks.

That's slash notation, it tells you how to strum.
Thank you for the music!

I'm struggling with this more than any other lesson... Why does it seem like he's doing E minor shaped barres in addition to normal E shape? Another problem is the answers do not match what I'm hearing at all... According to the answers the 3rd chord he plays is a Cm, but it's definitely not the Cm you get with an E shape barre on the 3rd fret...

The Cm on the third fret is not an E shape... but there is one there...

I the video Justin says all the chords are E shaped major or minor barre chords. You'll have to find the C
root note on the E string.

I thought by major and minor he meant shifting a major barre down to a 5th string root note to make it minor. Thanks for the quick replies.

Edit: Just to clarify, is x35543 called E shaped? It's not A minor shaped is it?

Sorry Guys but I thin I may be being a bit thick here. I'm starting the pentatonic tab dictation. Do you have to listen to a note and guess what it is or do you use your guitar to find the note on the scale. If you have to just guess it I'm really going to struggle with this. Please help.

Use your guitar!  Listen, try to find on the guitar.  Repeat as necessary.   Then check as necessary.

Hi everyone. i found this quite difficult. I'm hoping someone could help me. I don't want to give away the answers but in the first test, why are the flat notes not written as sharps? Does it matter?

First it doesn't really matter for ear training as long as you found the right thing.  If you call it C# major chord and the answer was Db major chord you got it right.  C# and Db are called enharmonic equivalents.  Same thing different name.

But all else being equal one might have decided to call it Db becausethe key of Db has 5 flats and the key of C# has 7 sharps.  Less accidentals.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to check if it's normal that I'm finding this so hard?? I can spend the whole ten minutes on the very first part of the first exercise. Any tips? Thanks,

I have a silly question about this one.

First, for me, it was super easy to get through. I figured things out quite quickly.

There is one thing that throws me off though. The first Solo of the Minor Pentatonic file is based on the D Minor Pentatonic sale, correct?

Justin plays at one point in there an E note. When you play the standard D Minor Pentatonic, the E note doesn't appear, but somehow sounds great in this riff. Is this because he's using the Natural D Minor scale instead of the pentatonic? And if so, are the two interchangeable when soloing?

Thanks for your help!
