Need help about English language (quick question)
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:21:21 pm »
Hi guys,

How do you say "half of the world pass under my window"....

Is it "pass" or "passes" or something?

Thanks.

Strapp - Both are grammatically correct.

"Half the world pass under my window"
"Half the world passes under my window"

Both are in the present tense.

"Half the world passed under my window" would be past tense.

"Half the world will pass under my window" would be future tense.

Thanks. I was just wondering with with a verb like "to eat" i'd have said "eats" without thinking about it but with "to pass" i wasn't sure.

Irish has got it right, but I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

It sounds kind of awkward to me to just say "Half the world pass under my window."

If you were to say something like "I watch half the world pass under my window" then that's how I'd say it.

If you were to just use that line I'd say "Half the world passes under my window." Just my opinion though

This is where language and interpretation come into things.
On a Reggae slant
"half the world, it come under my window, man"
soz to hijack and go off topic strapp  ;)
Irish pretty much answered your original post. Depends on your context, post some more of your lyrics up and we can offer some more advice.

Cheers,
Lorenzo

Then maybe i should say it Raggae style cuz i'm feeling "high". ;) That's for my Facebook status (i have a lot of foreign contacts). I'm living in Paris and tonight in like 10-15mn from the subway station to my appartment i spoke with English, Spanish, Italian and Norwegian People. That's the awesomeness of living in Paris near the Eiffel Tower at summertime.  ;) (and yes, all these chicks were hawt as hell).

ps : sorry for butchering English language on a daily basis, but i'm trying to do my best!

No need to apologize for the language barriers.  It's amazing that you want to learn let alone one of the hardest languages to learn in the world.  Good on ya!
