Agile with AHB-1 Blackouts
« on: April 07, 2010, 10:37:46 am »
More of a pickup question than a guitar question.

Anyone tried Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts?

There is one of the Agile range sporting them on both neck and bridge http://www.rondomusic.com/al3000mbkduncan.html

Listening to the tone samples on the SD site the dirty bridge sample had me salivating but I guess the quality of the rest of the tone chain plays a part too.

Anyhoo - I want something to play some metal/heavy rock e.g. AC/DC and similar - as I'm a relative noob to pickups I welcome any thoughts - I realise they are "active" pickups and I kind of get the pros and cons eg less noise, need power etc.

Living downunder, I'm never going to get to try an Agile (unless I buy one) so thoughts on how the Blackouts might compare to the SH-4/SH-1 '59 combo, or the Alnico Type V humbuckers on the other models appreciated.

Cheers, Bootstrap

never played'em but i can recommend you something else based on your explanations : Rebell Yell Pup's from bareknuckled Pups, handwound in UK, Life Warranty, not pricier than Duncans and much more interesting IMO l tonewise. Dangraves also have them on one of his guitars you can ask him as well....BKP's are the Best PUP's i've played and i'm glad to own a pair of em. Plus they offer the best online support i've ever encountered.

sound samples there :

and much more sample and BKP pups there

Hey guys, this thread is indeed handy. I am thinking of getting some suhr ssv chromes for my agile 3100. The guitar does have the lp size 50mm pups right?
