Like a few people here, I'm just catching up with this. Wicked idea Marcus.

I cannot play like you people yet though!

Listened to all of it so far - Some awesome stuff in there. Look forward to it continuing.

Be something to see Justin himself participate! ;D

Haha! Learnt my first lesson straight away. Too much time jamming to backing tracks instead of real people makes a novice overrun. Thanks for pointing that out tourniquet, I only realised that on listening again after your reply.

wasn't a pop at you plukey...
It's not uncommon to overrun, but if you're the last person (as I was) and you overrun (as I did) some notes will get dropped to keep everything smooth when the audio file has it's tail cut off and new sections added. Just want to avoid number 8s creative juices getting lost in the extension.

I cannot play like you people yet though!

That's the point... you're not supposed to try and play like us... you're supposed to play like yourself and add your own character to it.... give it a shot.... ;)

This really is a good thread - just listened to the most recent version and it is fantastic, really great to hear all the different approaches - well done everyone.

I'm a self-confessed nerd, but obviously not a very good one as I've never really sussed out this whole recording caper. Haven't even really worked out how to set up the mics on the Zoom Q3 Santa brought to me. Must look into it, Reaper you say? Hmmm, Google time.....

I feel like the kid who wants to play but has to stay home because he has mumps :)

Unfortunately, I'm the same as Boot there. I've got no means to record yet. I'll continue to watch this thread with interest though.

All it takes is a computer, freely available software and a microphone. Most of my Mics cost about £30 new but I picked up an old Condenser mic off Ebay for £10 yesterday, yet to put it through it's paces but it seems perfectly fine.... hell, I even used the rather rubbish mics that come free with computers in the beginning.

A very late contribution

I am not used to playing in E, so I hit a few wrong notes.

The links for Rendelven and Plukey are dead, so I had to go back to the previous version by Tourniquet.

playing in E is just like playing in any other key isn't it? Same shapes, just different notes.

Not if you play in open positions for G, D and C.

Yeah, I'm trying to ease into bluegrass flatpicking.

I suppose I could capo up to the fourth fret and go from there... ;D

Well this is an old thread but I have been cruising and just found it.   And I love jamming songs to backing tracks, so here's one.  Hope the vocal isn't too forward.  I am having a hard time with my speakers and changing them out in the near future.   One day I promise I'll do this with a guitar.   But I did this just as an improv and thought it was worth sharing since it got me married...
Well, in my dreams.  And they are strange ones, I admit.
