Raising/Lowering Pickups

Hello,
  I have a Squier Strat with a Humbucker in the bridge position.  I only recently discovered that I can raise and lower the pickups.  I figure they will sound louder the closer they are to the strings but I'm trying to figure if this changes anything else.

Personally i like to have it a bit higher under the thinner strings, i feel that it gives me a slightly "bigger" sound.
Be careful if you do something like that - for the reasons c2u already mentioned.
What you maybe also want to do when experimenting:
Measure the exact distance between the strings and pickups on both sides before you change anything
and write it down, so that you can reset it more easy.
Measure again if you find a setting you like and write this also down.
