Tonerider pickups
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:11:50 pm »
A friend of mine, who I used to be in a band with has
just put some of these pickups in his Squire strat.

Even though he is a bass player he also has a six string.

There are some sound clips of the various pickups on their site

See here http://www.tonerider.com/pickups/stratpickups.html

They are very reasonably priced, axesrus have them.

Has anyone on this forum tried these pickups?

As an aside I thought single coil pickups were not handed but according to the above site they are.

Probably the pole pieces. Strat poles are fixed heights and some manufacturers calibrate those heights for better response from their particular string.
rather considerate of them.

Sorry I did not make that bit clear, what I meant was
I thought the pickups were symmetrical, so you just turned them end to end
and that would then put the pole lengths etc in the correct position

If you look at the picture you'll notice the pickup base is flat on one edge  and sticks out on the other. it's pretty standard for single coils and means they can only fit one way into a standard single coil route.
If you had a swimming pool route, were prepared to cut out additional wood or modified the pickup base you could flip it round.

Thanks for the explanation, there had to be a reason.
I will take a closer look at the picture.

I have amended my above post as it did not read correctly.

Dear All
Here is a link to another Uk supplier.
They are priced at £69.99 per set including P+P
That sounds reasonable to me, I have no vested interest in these pickups.
