New acoustic amp and mic. guidance
« on: December 11, 2009, 12:10:22 am »
I have just purchased an acoustic amp for my electro acoustic guitar,my first foray into the world of guitar effects, so lots to learn. i would also like to connect a microphone to it. Should i go for a Dynamic or Condenser mic? The amp has two channels with reverb on both, chorus, pad and anti-feedback and an EQ with low mid low mid high and high settings. Reverb i get and anti feedback but chorus and pad is new to me??? Any help with settings appreciated or do i just experiment. Thanks in anticipation. Had a little first play and even without doing anything it sounded great so really looking forward to picking up more ideas.

Pad just reduces the size of the signal of something plugged into that input by a fixed amount (useful to balance the volume of 2 things with different outputs). Chorus gives an effect that is like several instruments playing together. Try it and see.

Thanks guys very much. The amp is a Laney LA35c. I suppose initially i want to work on balancing the guitar sound with some singing through a mic and then adding some effects to enhance the performance. The chorus feature sounds really interesting. I imagine backing tracks might be a possibility too. Any ideas on what mic, make, value for money etc.?

If you want a vocal mic it would be hard to go wrong with a Shure SM58.
