Yeah who knows though, if you picked it up 20 years ago, you wouldn't of had this site so you might have got frustrated, not had as much fun and given it up for ever

Btw just learned 'Im yours' by Jason Marz. Quite a cool, chilled, summer song, learn it if you are lazy because it is just G D Am C (capo 4th).

I'd say I should have started playing earlier too, I mean I started when I was 14 but only got serious until half a year ago (when I was 17).
I also wished I'd started singing earlier.
And I also regret not having participated with the theatre-day thing at school, if only I was able to find a singer that could I could have accompanied with guitar.
I saw a dude do a really bad job at Drifting, and a half-screwed up rendition of White Horse... It's like it's being rubbed in really hard.

i'm working on memorizing all the finger positions on Midnight by joe satriani..haven't managed to play it through without the tabs yet...i'm also working on sad but true by metallica i have most of the rythm part down in tempo..still need to work on the solo...other than that i'm working on some riffs from aerosmith 'eat the rich" and "walk this way" and on the rythm part of an extreme song (nuno bettancourt's band) "confortably dumb"

i'm spending more time on my rythm since i've been spending most my time on lead lately and became quiet confortable in that area

Just learned how to set up my grandpa's old Cort Les Paul. It's pretty good now.
Only thing I seem to run into is that I can't get it perfectly in tune.

Cool dude. Just back off the distortion a bit and maybe(if you can) add a touch of delay. Anyway back on topic. Trying to get my memphis scales in order(minor shapes and major shapes). Just having fun moving them around.

No I have an Aria AG-20, used to be my grandpa's. It has one channel, two gain knobs, one shape knob and three EQ knobs. And a master volume knob, d'oh.

have you checked the intonation ? got new strings on ? checked the tuning pegs ?

The intonation was set correctly, it does have 10 year old strings on it though, and I have to retune it like every hour or two.

it might do the trick..Old and corroded strings do not stretch and return to normal like strings that are in good condition...if you're low on cash..try Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies...5 or 6 Bucks that are well worth !! those are actually my strings of choice over much more expensive ones.

I agree these are the strings of my choice. Mine are 9/42! My were $10 for a set CDN! Still they are cheap but play definitely like more expensive strings.

Do coated strings work well on electric guitars? I want to go 10 I think, 11 would probably be a bit too much.

Cue I use Elixir 10's on my Ibanez Blazer and they work just fine - just getting the hang of bending now - a technique I have overlooked for far too long!

if i were you i'd go with an hybrid gauge 9-46...it's quiet nice to do some string bending and stuff...i can't easily make 2 tone bends with 10's and if you like to play some hendrix and stuff you might need to bend 2 tones....i know you're an acoustic player but that doesn't mean you have to look for the same feel on an electric i have 12-52 string gauge on my acoustic and i like it that way...but i'll never ever get that gauge for my electric...because i do different things on my electric...i wouldn't try to replicate what i'm doing on an acoustic on my electric guitar.....with different string gauge on different guitars you get to play differently and do more stuff wich makes you a better player overall !!! plus imo you don't really get a better tone playing 10's or 11 on an electric

I'm just randomly messing around with the electric, not learning anything serious, not planning to either.
I do have a lot of 'to do' for the acoustic (like 5 songs).
Edit: I'd assume you'd get more sustain with higher gauges, but whatever.

well i've never noticed a significant difference in sustain when playing on thicker gauge strings...with a good amp , a proper amout of gain some pedals, a compressor if you're playing on clean settings...you get crazy sustain whatever gauge you're playing on.

Went to my lesson tonight and couldn't play worth a damn! Hit every wrong note there was to play. Totally embarrased BUT I could play the barred A major chord perfectly. Go figure! When I practiced an hour before on the barred A chord I couldn't get it. Some u win and some u lose! I guess some of us are hard on ourselves than others. I so expect perfection from myself and when it's not evident it's pure frustration for me.
I could just scream!!!!!
