I have begun work on the "House of the Rising Sun," "Zephyr Song," and "Mr. Jones."
Sounds like a lot to take in at once, but really what I mean by "working" on those songs is:
"DAMN THIS MOTHERF_-_-_- F BARRE CHORD"
I've been working on this one chord going over previous chords just long enough so I don't forget them then doing nothing but trying to play an F barre for at least an hour (minus several cigarettes) every freaking night, for two straight weeks, and I'm just now starting to be able to make every string ring out, let alone do that and finger it fast enough to even implement it into chord changes at the lowest setting on my metronome.
It is such a PITA. My pinky and the side of my finger are finally getting there callouses developed, and I can feel the muscle you use when you press your thumb on the fretboard getting stronger. Who would have thought I would have to develop a really weird little muscle I didn't even know existed to be able to play guitar.
licks, this is why I love learning on my own, "poor bloke" style, if you will. I can sit in my garage and sound just atrocious and nobody will hear me, I hope, then refine it before I let anybody hear it.
When my muscle starts to hurt from F I switch to wonderwall for a bit.
