I want to try a 12 string but I couldn't find one 'round here for me to try out.

Anyway I'd like to know what the answer is to the question that was posted before this.

my guess

you tweak all the pegs some until everything gets a little wobbly and rattly along the fretboard then you tweak them a little more just for luck

You lower the pitch of all the strings. E down to C#

Seriously, what is wrong with you kids these days ?
Never tuned a guitar in a different tuning then E before ?
Downtune all string 1½ note, and presto : C# tuning...
C# F# B E G# C#
It helps if you use a strobe tuner btw.

I have tuned to DADGAD before, and now I tuned one to Eb.

I should inform you though, the shop doesn't have many 12 strings, 3 or four at best, it's a REALLY small shop.
I really meant it when i said "a few".

I've used alternate tunings it's just the tension on a 12 string is greater than a guitar with 6 strings so I was surprised and shocked that it was possible to tune a 12 stringed guitar to C#.

And I know the tension is greater because at one point I wanted to play my dad's 12 string until I looked at it and told him the neck looked funny because it split away from the body all on it's own. We took it to my favorite guitar shop (because they do repairs) and they said it would make a nice wall clock meaning the bridge had bubbled. The neck they could fix but once the bridge bubbles it's useless. Although they did say we could take the risk and put a new top on it but we all new that even if we did that the guitar would not sound the same.

He still has it and we had to take the strings off to prevent further damage but it's sadly a dead guitar. But it's so beautiful to look at.

C# is LOWER / LESS TENSION than E. C# D D# E ----> higher

The reason the guitar was ruined is because it was supposed to be tuned lower with that specific string gauge you have on it. You adjust the string gauge and de-tuning ( LOWER ) so the guitar doesn't self destruct.

C# is about is low as most people go. But depending on the guitar and the string gauge, anything from the LOWER C# up to E is typical.

That's a nice song to get your fingerstyle under control, nice and slow, and yet still fairly intricate, with lots of little bits of nuance.

@TB-AV : thanks for that, i don't think i could have written an explanation on why she was wrong without giving myself a stroke from the sheer effort of not using any offensive terms.

Yesterday I started learning the most cheezy "jazz" piece there is: "take 5"
I was on a roll because i managed to remember the fignerign so fast and the tempo came quite quick... then my wife came whinign she wanted to go to sleep. hate it when I have to interrupt a fruitful session of guitaring..

I started using the powerchord-ish shiftable chord shapes (like 079900 to form an E with no 3rd, or 799800 to form a weird B chord) to play some songs.
I think they're kinda lame though.

lame ?? just gotta find the song to place them in ... see the 2 Dylan song extracts I did on youtube ... or stick them into Like A Rolling Stone key of E ... start on E move upto finish on A open barre chord and B open barre chord ...the one you mention ... (with chordslike those in You're A Big Girl Now inbetween) ... or, with similar chords, Who Knows Where The Time Goes
