I'm currently learning how to take a break from playing, 'cos I got a little over exuberant after listening to Ragz' 'Hey Joe' the other night and had far too much fun jamming along to Hendrix.

My fretting hand feels like it's done a triathlon, so tonight is a rest night.

I'm trying to learn Mean Bone by Slash's Snakepit -  the solo is killing me!

I'm also transcribing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UkvsoqnQ2I (before the Godfather)

My goal is to perform either before December.

I need to get deeper into theory after dicking around for too long learning songs.  So I'm regularly focusing on scales/modes, extensive chord vocab etc, getting more into fretboard logic.  It's been neglected for far too long and I have many lost years to now catch up on :(

I'm learning greensleeves to get more into fingerstyle.
I think it will help me motivate myself if i can play something without a pick,
and i guess greensleeves is a good place to start.

If you don't know it, here it is on guitar:

Nice tone that guy gets from that guitar btw,
wonder what guitar that is.

And with a vocalist:

Persona non grata.

I'm still doing Stage 4 of the beginners course and will probably move on to stage 5 this week. But I'm much less in a hurry now that I've started to practice songs a lot more. Was holding out on that a little for the first 2 1/2 months, as strumming and chord changes weren't really up to scratch. But recently I seem to have made a big jump.

Current favourites I work on most are 'Comfortably Numb' and 'Wish You Were Here' with a little bit of 'Heart Of Gold' every now and then thrown in. I got the strumming down fairly well by my standards and feel that 16th note strumming has probably been the biggest revelation in my 3 1/2 months of guitar playing. It totally transforms what seemed to be mere chord progressions into actual songs that even sound somewhat like the original. I can even sing along decently when I'm in good shape. And I have just started to work on the intro solo of WYWH. That still feels like it'll take an eternity to get down, but past experience with other stuff that I thought I'd never learn tells me that it's not going to be as bad as I now think. :)

Right now I'm going back over a few songs that I haven't learned completely, and I'm also trying to work on my major scales and improvisation skills.

The songs I'm working on are:

Bang Bang - Dispatch
45 - Shinedown
Everything You Want- Vertical Horizon

Just got back from an amazing lesson and I'm learning scales, still practicing some A minor pentatonic licks, learning the E minor pentatonic scale and learning Black  Sabbath's Paranoid.  This song is too much fun.  I'm learning more indepth theory from this new teacher and a lot of other very important elements from this teacher.  This guy is goooooooooooooooooood!   I'm so glad I looked around and found someone who really cares about teaching and not just the money end of it.

- Mr. Bigs "To Be With You" (getting the solo up to speed)
- From "Blues You Can Use" (book): "Getting Funky"
- repeating RHCP's "Under the Bridge" every few days, since I want to record that one

"Getting Funky" I like that tune and have only mastered it at slow tempo so far, I was waiting until I could play a little faster and smooth at the same time.

Licksnkicks: Great to see you have a guitar teacher :)
