@J.W.C. another great way to start the day listening to one of your songs.  This was a really cool interpretation.  I like the bass, drums, acoustic only sound this had.   8)  Thanks for another great share!

I loved it J.W.C.  more like this please. LOL. And I listened before reading your comment about not being totally happy with the guitar work. Sounded pretty much flawless to me. We’re those SUS chords you were throwing in?

Thanks; I'm glad you liked it.

On the chord variations, yeah, I'm throwing in some sus chords here and there. I don't recall exactly what I played here (it's probably a little different every time), but the variations I'm using are almost certainly from the following:
  • G: I think I always play this straight (sometimes including a D on the 2nd string, sometimes without).
  • D: Dsus4
  • Am: Asus2, Asus4, maybe Am7. In some parts I play the Am at fret V.
  • C: Usually standard, but sometimes I put in the high G on fret III. Also, I might've put in Cmaj7 or Cadd9 in passing.

Here's a cover of Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door.

Knocking on Heaven's Door

Guitar (Martin OM-35e)
Vocal (me)
Drums (created in the DAW with MIDI & a sampled drum kit)
Bass (created in the DAW with MIDI & a sampled bass)

This is one where I recorded the guitar, wasn't 100% happy with it, and let it sit (thinking I'd re-record the guitar at some point). Today I decided to let the guitar stand (despite my perceived "warts") and just recorded the vocal over what I already had.

I don't have enough words to say how much I enjoyed this JWC. You have a masterful touch and a lightness that gives this life. Glorious tones, textures, spot on rhythm and groove. Thankyou.

J.W.C's interpretation made me decide to go back and take another shot at this one and add it to this song challenge thread. I was surprised to see this song first came out the same year as I was born, 1973. And I added a bit of GNR phrasing in a couple parts, as an ode to my adolescence. LOL.

If you notice that my lips aren't moving in the first "ooh ooh ooh" part of the intro -- well, it occurred to me later that would be a nice addition, so I overdubbed that part by adding another track in Audacity. Everything else is just a one shot take.

@phx1973 - The eagerly awaited Tosh KOHD has arrived and with a bang.  Really nice job Tosh, very nicely interpreted and your 'ooh oooh  oooooh oh'  additional track I think worked really well.   Aren't we lucky we can record and listen to ourselves making improvements like that so easily these days.  And now when you play it you'll 'oooh oooh ooohh oh'  live!    And everyone loves 'oooh oh ooooh oh oooh's' live.   ::)   I'm also a 1973 model Tosh, what a year it was for talent huh!   8) ;D ;)

I liked the laid back vibe of this rendition, Tosh. Another fine addition to the challenge thread.

I liked this a lot, as with all of the Tosh catalog of covers, always steady strumming and nice unique vocal inflection.

I have one nit that jumped out at me -- and that's the placement of the C7 chord. Is that the GnR connection? It struck my ear-balls oddly. Rather than just be nit-picky without a better suggestion, I picked up my guitar to see if there might be something a bit more transitional. I thought C/G (C chord with pinky at high E 3rd fret) worked better in that context. YMMV.

Another nice stylization, highly listenable and enjoyable!

Thanks Clint! That's funny about your comment regarding the C7. I couldn't decide if I liked it or not for the longest time. But this particular day it just sounded right to me. I'm not sure why, maybe just because it sounded different that your typical KOHD cover.
