Congrats! My Toshiba is going on 7 years and if it gives up I have a problem because I don't know what I would replace it with.
I had been having that bit of a dilemma. I ended up with a custom build Optimus VIII from PCSpecialist, as without either spending a lot more money, or swapping bits myself, I couldn't get the basic spec I wanted.

I use it for timing events, which relies on running a database server, so SSD and a good processor are needed to do all the number crunching. And I also use it for CAD work, so reasonably good graphics and plenty memory make that less painful.

My basic spec had been Win 10 Pro, i something processor, ~500GB SSD, dedicated graphics, 15" screen, and at least 8GB memory.
Ended up with i7 7700HQ, 480GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050TI 4GB graphics, 15" screen, and 16GB memory.

Bit higher spec than what I originally set out to use, but i also bought a cooler master notepal stand with built in hub, with the plan of getting rid of the old desktop, and having the notepal usb hub set up with the audio interface, proper keyboard and mouse, and display adapter, so I can sit the laptop on it, plug a single USB cable in and pretty much have a desktop setup for when I need big screens.

That also means I can juggle desks around, fit in a multi guitar stand, and have my amps easier to access :-)

My Sony VAIO is 7 years old too. I can't replace it now. I'm looking for a Mini PC for practicing and recording. I should be able to find something suitable for 250€ a monitor inclusive, or even less.

Nice spec! I nearly pulled the trigger on a microATX-based PC with i5 6600, GTX750TI, 8GB RAM and 500GB HDD and Windows 7. However, I figured my laptop still runs everything OK if I don't go too crazy with heavy CPU load programs. It runs my REAPER projects very well, it just doesn't really like editing HD video with Premiere.

I have a VAIO that's 12 years old now, single core 1.6GHz and 1GB RAM stuck on Windows XP. I don't think it wants to turn on anymore so I have to check that out.

The spec I mentioned above would've set me back about €600 and I have like two spare monitors (a 17" and a 19"). I found that a little too much to spend so I didn't. :P

I just received the Strat, thanks to those who recommended it and supported my decision.

Now, how to sneak this thing into house without the wife noticing? lol

"Hi honey. This rag? Nah, it's just an old guitar I've had for ages. I thought I'd dig it out and give it some love. You know, instead of spending money on a new one....".

It could work, you know

Nah, I have a better idea... you're going to want to plug that thing in a scream with it. So, how about sending her out for a massage and to get her hair done... Then you can rock on!

I prepared for this moment  ;) She wanted a bluetooth speaker so I bought it for her. I also told her that I saw a cockroach in the basement, she would never dare to enter the studio. But my children will blow my disguise so I have to bribe them lol.

The new Country Guitar Techniques DVD (well technically download).
I've been musing over something a bit different to try, as I've been struggling to get any decent practise routine going. Quite liking it so far, as it's given me something fresh to work on, as I can pick up an extra lick to practise when I've got time, plus it's making me think a bit more about theory. I may even get back to working on the PMT...

I got lucky. I have wanted a partyicular bass guitar for years.

Yesterday I started looking around to see how much they were... still way too expensive for somebody who doesn't primarily play bass.

Then later, I found an e-mail with B-stock items at a local music store.

They had a few of those basses up for grabs at a greatly reduced price.

So I ordered one.

It's a G&L Tribute L-2000 natural.

I picked up a slightly used Fender Frontman 212R amp. It makes my Fender Strat sound like a Strat! Now I can drive my neighbors nuts!
Beginner (August 2016) 67 years young.
Goal: to be able to play so someone can recognize the song!

This Sunday I'm test driving a Fender Strat (Mex).
It's second hand but supposedly in great condition.
