Which guitar(s) do you own?  Acoustic CORT MR-500E-B. Cheapo one. Music store didn't have any Yamaha's or Fenders in stock. Flying off the shelf since Covid. Didn't want to invest too much to start off. Once I get real good, like able to strum complex strumming patterns and good sounding chords on the beat...I will give it away to some young underprivileged kid.

Which guitar do you currently play on? Same

Which amp(s) do you own? None

How long have you been playing guitar? 6 weeks (newbie)

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)? Everything except heavy metal minus a few exceptions

Which genre do you play on your guitar often? Justin's beginner songs: I Walk the line, Three little birds, Bad Moon Rising, Love me DO. Also practicing parts of other songs such as: Me and Bobby McGee, Angie, My heart will go on, Hero, Sometimes when we touch.  I can't do most of the chords for those songs yet, but I can sing them... so still trying.

Who are your favorite bands? QUEEN, Rolling Stones, CCR, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Dylan, many others and some EMINEM

What inspired you to start playing guitar? To make Covers of my favorite songs

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band? Nope

Why do you play guitar? Because I love it. And I love singing. Good for mental health and a great escape in these times of Covid.

What are your goals for the future? To make Covers of my favorite songs, songwriting. I love writing poems.. it might just help me write some songs in the future. But first, practice, practice, and more practice.

Non guitar related:  Currently on my first draft writing a crime novel: Picture Perfect. Hope to publish it next year as an Independent on Amazon.

Hello, new to the guitar here, new to instruments all together but I'm really looking to learn to play and found Justin's lessons and after watching lesson 1 I decided to buy a guitar and get started.  I just ordered a Yamaha FG800 and can't wait for it to arrive.  I am a 48 year old municipal employee.  I live in Vermont and with winter getting very close I will look forward to strumming in the basement where its warm.  I have 3 pet Nigerian Dwarf goats hence the user name goatfarmer11.  Looking forward to learning more and chatting with everybody.

Have a great day

Denis

Good Friday to all of you, mates!  :)

My first post here - never in my life was I playing any musical instrument
but they always allured me being a music fan for ages.

I decided to try guitars this spring and this was dragging through the whole summer
without much success.
Tried different online courses even a couple of face-to-face ones but...
So to make long story short :) decided to abandon this.
A month passed and again somehow I felt like I wanted to restart my musical career.. ;)
Started again searching for courses and by pure fate came 2 cources:
one from a famous guitar manufacturer and the Justin guitar.
Tried both but eventually stuck with Justin's as I do like the way it goes.
So now I am at the end of my first month and Lesson 1 having made some progress
with DAE. :)

First I bought a very nice Antoria old guitar but it has some kind of flattish frets on the top (Wear, dressing?)
and I thought this may add imperfection (buzzing, etc.) to my
starters' play so I decided to put it aside for now and bought a brand new Mustang where I can be sure that the frets are new.
Do you think it was the right decision?

P.S. Nope - before Antoria I started with the most budget set of a plank + amp (you see loads of them for under 100 pounds) but then I replaced the amp with a nice old Laney HCM15 and my second move was to upgrade the guitar.

Have a nice weekend and take care!

Huge Thank You to Justin and all his great Team!

Decided after many years of neglecting my guitar playing I'm going to commit to recovering my abilities and taking it beyond where I ever got to.  The muscle memory is still there :) but so are the frustrations of turning musical knowledge into music.  Also I'll be able to convince my wife I am once again a guitar player and not just a guitar collector ....

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I’m a beginner. Just trying to improve speed and accuracy when changing chords - E, D, A. Frustrating! I do enjoy the app but I can’t seem to progress beyond lesson 1. When I do the timed chord changes you would think I was on stage in front of 10,000 people. I just choke up. Never was good at exams ::) Anyway, just saying hello!

Happy guitaring!

Welcome to the forum Rebecca
Your training your fingers and brain to communicate in a way they never have
before. It take time but will get easier as those connection become permanent.

Be patient the speed will come. The funny thing with guitar is the slower and
more accurate your are the faster the speed comes. If you rush your chord changes
you start making mistakes. If you make mistakes over and over you are learning them
Practice makes Permanent, so slow and correct make it easier to speed up.

Welcome to the forum Rebecca  :)

Excellent advise from stitch.

Regarding stage fright, I was very fortunate to have a a Skype lesson with Justin this week. One of the things we talked about was stage fright or in your case, Timer Fright :o  This is some of what he said to me.

"The self critical commentary breaks your connection with the song, and the guitar and if you're performing, the audience. When you practice, practice being in your happy place.  It’s a place where nothing matters. It doesn’t mean that nothing is important.  The space of Nothing is important.  When you play, get to a place of playing where you're not thinking about anything, it just happens. Get lost in this place.

Practise is to automate it so you can switch into that other zone, a place of nothing.  It’s very much like the space called meditation. Thoughts come and go, it’s an empty place but it’s not.
"

If playing with a timer on chokes you up, don't use it every time. Take your time to feel your way, gain confidence and connection with your guitar, then when you're ready you can turn the timer on.

Enjoy your music Rebecca.

Which guitar(s) do you own?

Yamaha FG800 & the cheapest electric on Amazon

Which guitar do you currently play on?

Acoustic

Which amp(s) do you own?

Fender Mustang I V.2

For how long have you been playing guitar?

Like most people I had a few lessons in the past but quickly gave up in frustration because it was too hard. And again like many, since the lockdown i've took it up again with renewed vigour - thankfully I discovered Justin's lessons early on and they have been a revelation! An excellent teacher.

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?

Hard to say, I like songs from pretty much all genres but if i had to choose I would say Trance music (the harder the better!). In terms of the guitar I really like Blues and Rock and Roll  -plenty of overlap with the former haha

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?

I've had a dip into quite a few so far, mainly from Justin's songbooks and website. I've also tried a few Irish folk songs. I'm currently tring to learn Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Caroline, Stand by Me and The Fields of Athenry - any tips are welcolm!

Who are your favorite bands?

Again hard to say as I really have such a broad taste in music. If i had to choose I would say Thin Lizzy, with a notable mention to Queen and modern band might be Green Day or Snow Patrol. Again no consistency to this really!

What inspired you to start playing guitar?

The day after my sisters wedding we all left the hotel and went back to the local pub for a 'cure' (as you do in Ireland). My dad's friend sent for a taxi to pick up his guitar and bring it to the pub. The craic (fun) we had that day was unreal, everyone singing songs, it was actually better than the wedding and weddings are fun. All this possible because of one person knowing how to play an instrument, the guitar. I felt it most be super satisfying to him to be able to create so much joy with his music and i wanted to experience that.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?

No, never been in a band.

Why do you play guitar?

See above. I want to be able to bring joy to myself and others through music. Also, I like pushing myself and learning new skills, therefore it gives me an opportunity to develop a difficult skill to a high level which will help me grow in general. Follow your passions!

What are your goals for the future?[/b]

To become a very competent guitar player who loves to play and sing for friends and family. I would love to be able to play the blues to a high level.
