Hello all !

I'm Colin and just starting to learn guitar ... for the THIRD time.

The first time, I lost interest, as the course I chose was too oriented to reading music at the start - boring. The second time, my tutor's approach didn't seem to work for me - and he tried hard, and so did I.

Then, I discovered Justin's course and this rekindled my enthusiasm.
Here, I seem to be making "good" progress.

All the best. Colin

Forgot to use the template when I first posted the stuff above...

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?
Many sorts ... Rock, Electric, World music

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
Nothing yet.

Who are your favorite bands?
Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, ...

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
The mental/physical/coordination challenges and ... the sound when it's done well.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?
Nobody would have me ... Yet !

Why do you play guitar?
Beautiful sound, when played well.

What are your goals for the future?
My pleasure and perhaps with friends.

Hey just thought I’d stop by and say hello.

I stumble across the song course app on my iPad and worked my way through stage one, then when I realised I’d got to subscribe, I left it and thought that’s was the end of Justins free lessons.... safe to say I now know thats a separate course and I have started working through Justin’s actual beginners course online 🙈

I've already purchased the beginners song book as a way of saying thank you (although I'm not at a stage where I can play anything yet)

Which guitar do you currently play on? Both when I get new strings for the 365S

Which amp(s) do you own? None

How long have you been playing guitar? 42 years

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)? Rock, Folk

Who are your favorite bands? Beatles, Moody Blues, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon..... and too many to list

What inspired you to start playing guitar? Couple of friends who played

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band? No, but I managed one in high school until I got them a gig touring New Mexico and Arizona with ZZ Top and they turned it down!!

Why do you play guitar? Puts me in a peaceful, creative zone; and tortures the cat.

What are your goals for the future? Like many others I taught myself to play through old guitar songbooks. Even though my playing and singing sounds good, I am certain that my strumming (and some chord placement) is somewhat questionable as far as correct techniques. I want to learn correct methods of strumming and some finger picking to start... to move forward.  :)

Found Justin's website and I think this will be an eye opening experience.
Thank God for morons. Without them who would the rest of us have to blame things on?

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
I can't claim a genre but I will probably play the Blues, then songs from Tool and Foo Fighters

Who are your favorite bands?
Tool, Fleetwood Mac, Foot Fighters

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I grew up listening to 70s rock and roll since my father had me when he was young and into loud music.  I've been strumming tennis rackets ever since.

Which guitar do you currently play on? The Breedlove

Which amp(s) do you own? I have a Fender Princeton Chorus that was given to me (now I just need an electric guitar to go with it).

How long have you been playing guitar? Since about 3 days ago (although I'm not sure it counts as playing)

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)? I like most genres, but my favorites are going to be classic rock (AC/DC, Metallica (pre-black album), Aerosmith, etc)

Which genre do you play on your guitar often? I don't know if the A & D chords count as a genre  :)

Who are your favorite bands? AC/DC, Metallica (pre-black album), Aerosmith, etc

What inspired you to start playing guitar? I've always wanted to, and to be honest I tried in the past unsuccessfully because I got frustrated, but I was using a really crappy acoustic guitar, and while this isn't the nicest guitar on the planet, it's far more playable.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band? In my head.

Why do you play guitar? I have a love of music.

What are your goals for the future? I would absolutely love to be able to fill in with my church praise band, and to just pull it out and jam when the mood strikes me.

Habitat:

Which guitar(s) do you own?
Fender Standard Stratocaster, MIM SSS 2000-2001.
Recording King, Dirty 30's, RPH-05.

Which guitar do you currently play on?
The Strat for practice and the Recording King for kicks.

Which amp(s) do you own?
Marshall G15RCD, soon to be upgraded but not soon enough.

How long have you been playing guitar?
Since the early 80's when I was a teenager destined for fame and fortune, ended up as a theatrical stage tech', since retired. Bought said Strat' in 2001 but work, marriage and children took up my time. Picked it up again about two months ago and thanks to Justin and a number of others I am back to where I was when I was a teenager. I very much consider my self a beginner, although i have a better than average understanding of backline gear, as I was then but my fingers remember so progress is quick at the moment. Need to practice precise finger positioning but basic chords and barring are still there.

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?
\i have broad tastes in music but Don Giovanni is tough to play on a guitar. If I was pushed to answer I would say I know more about Rock and Blues than any other.

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
Blues when not practicing.

Who are your favorite bands?
Again that's such a hard question, particularly for someone of my age. If I was stranded on a desert island I would choose Tom Waits and Ry Cooder.

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
Back in the day, Punk, today, the wife, Nirvana Unplugged and recently Steve 'n' Seagulls.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?
Nope, it is not my intention but who knows what the future holds.

Why do you play guitar?
To relax, to gain a sense of achievement, to have a creative outlet, maybe it's a mid-life crisis, who really knows, makes me feel good even though I am not very good yet.

What are your goals for the future?
To become competent enough to hold a tune and record material at home.

Age and birthday: older than the universe (according to my grandson)
Habitat: cave dweller....

Which guitar(s) do you own?
a couple of bass guitars, a 70's yamato, strat, a few homemade ones, borrowing my daughter's lp to learn how to play

Which guitar do you currently play on?
a cherry coloured lp

Which amp(s) do you own? a 20 bass amp, a 30 guitar amp and a 10 guitar amp

How long have you been playing guitar?

bass very badly for around 20 years, 6 string about 2 weeks

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?
a bit of everything except country style, it's way too depressing, all that " my wife left with the kids and the dog run away with it's bowl and the cat moved in next door..." etc just don't float my boat.

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
rock, pop, blues mostly, but in general anything

Who are your favorite bands?
don't really have faves, anything that inspires me in the moment, i could like something today but not care for it tomorrow

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
my grandson. i've been building guitars for years but could never play them, i figured it was time to give it a go. i built him a guitar for his 10th birthday then decided i would compete with him to learn how to play. he found his mother's lp easier to play, given it's a pricey bit of kit he stole my 70's yamato to learn on and i borrowed his mum's one. he finds the style of guitar easier to play than his strat style i made for him. i concur, lp's appear easier to play. the strat is okay to play, not hugely different but it's different enough to make a little difference.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?
hell no, if i were in a band my playing would be banned!

Why do you play guitar?
i thought playing the guitar by ear would be better than fiddling with my beard...

:) After a few years of playing classical and doing some grades I have changed direction and gone pick and electric. I hope to learn improvisation and playing more by ear than from a sheet of written music.  Thought the 'how many chord changes in a minute' a great exercise to defeat finger hesitation. Wish i had discovered Justin's speed drill a few years back ...its fun and works! Got some adjusting to do.. narrower neck, strings closer together, new to plectrums, strumming, strings thinner etc so its back to basics and work at it. The site looks great .... back to practice! 8)

Oh lawd. Since about 2004 but I had a very long break.

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?
Metal, Industrial, Tradgoth

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
Mostly classic rock and metal atm (playing a lot of Ghost)

Well, I stopped for a long time as long story short, I lost all my confidence in it. But every time I looked at my dusty guitars, I felt a pang of guilt. Which guitar(s) do you own? Acoustic nondescript 😂

Which guitar do you currently play on? As above

Which amp(s) do you own? N/A

How long have you been playing guitar? 2 years but little progress

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)? All with exception of roots reggae. Favourite would have to be classic rock, Funk, RnB in that order

Which genre do you play on your guitar often? Not there yet 😂

Who are your favorite bands? AC/DC, Barkays, Anything from the Motown, Stax and Atlantic stables

What inspired you to start playing guitar? Apart from love of music (I used to play the sax) we have a genetic disposition to dementia in my family. Music adapts neurons and rewires the brain and it's been suggested it wards off symptoms of the illness. So here I am healthy and raring to go.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band? Aspiring to that someday.

Why do you play guitar? I am retired and have a lot of time to practice. Given my inspirations above I have challenged myself to play live solo within 18 months. I am also looking at opening a solo instrumentalist venue in Nairobi because there is no such intimate venue here.

What are your goals for the future? Remain positive. See answer immediately above
