What inspired you to start playing guitar?
I play the bagpipes (yeah OK, I hear ya!) which are emotive, I have always thought guitar is also VERY emotive from rock to emotional solos and a friend plays and sings who is 52...I love trying new things and thought, 'right let's do this' and decided to buy a basic guitar follow a plan and see where it leads me.

No and at the moment my objective is to play for my own entertainment and enjoyment.... Therapy lol

I want to play guitar because I want to learn a whole new skill and enjoy the process of doing so.  I also love to listen to guitar solos... Even more now I own one

What are your goals for the future?
To stay focused, not give up and become better today than I was yesterday.   Who knows where that will take me

My set up below, affordable and well recommended I hope it serves me well.

Hi Craig,
Welcome. I've just started myself & looking forward to the journey.
Good luck on your path & no matter how frustrating certain things become, don't give up. That is one lesson I can impart. I gave up years ago & have only taken it up again. I just think where I might be now if I hadn't. Still, can't dwell on that now, am just moving forward & enjoying the creative challenge ahead. :)

Cheers

Tony.

Hello from Massachusetts! Yes - I am Tom Scholz fan!  Boston rules! I actually get to see Tom all the time.

Anyway, I am 46, and I am starting late! Oh well. Better late than never!  I played Piano and Clarinet when I was in High School, so I am not completely green.

Looking for music to be an "escape" as Tom put it :-)

Working on it!  What do you all think about those "beginner" electric guitar and amp kits at Guitar Center?  The money is right - and they seem to have OK reviews.

Hi Scholz_fan,
Welcome on board. I'm new here & have just started too. There are plenty of threads on here & on Justinguitar's website on buying a beginner's guitar that I found very useful. I took note of much of the advice on here, things such as - go to a shop & handle, test one yourself, see how they compare; if you're learning from scratch, put the money you might use in buying an amp into the guitar, as you can buy an amp later.
While no-one can tell you exactly what guitar to buy, that can only come from within & what 'floats your boat' but a strong contender from many reviews is the Yamaha Pacifica 012 or 112 (I bought the latter). Another one is the Squier Bullet or Affinity (Strat or Tele), which is Fender's official 'offshoot' for want of a better term - they are usually made in China or Indonesia (my Yamaha is made in Indonesia as well) & can be a bit hit or miss quality wise so I've heard/read about - the Affinity would be better out of the 2. The Yamahas are more consistent quality wise & seem to be better finished.
Just a thought. As said, there are many, many helpful folks on here that can be of benefit.
Good luck.
Cheers
Tony.

Rock!

Weezer, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Rage Against the Machine (more recently so!)

I used to be the lead vocalist for my school's rock band. I try not to think about it.
