Well, hi, all. I'm Matt Drake, 14, and I live in a very small island in the middle of the Meditarranean - Malta. A lot of Brits like to visit it, maybe you've been? Anyway, I've been 'self-tutoring' myself with the guitar for about 10 years now, with help from my dad and many internet-aids and books (Thanks Justin). I, one day wish to professionally play the blues (apart from being a Cardio-pulminary diagnostician). My influences are Eric Clapton, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, Bob Dylan, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, and Nirvana (amongst MANY others).

So, yeah.

when i was young and wanted to learn guitar i got NOOOOO support.  now that i'm a single parent, my mom thinks it's a great idea.  she's usually up in my business of how i spend my money, but now she says, "play guitar all you want, just don't have any more babies".

That's what you say. :P Maybe in the eyes of a 13 years old the age 18 might seem to be a whole something but honestly, it's nothing man. I more often feel young then old. Besides, I'm still childish as hell. :D

Nickname: Most people just call me Adam
Real (full) name: Adam Zak Outteridge
Age and birthday: 20 (27-09-1986)
Habitat: Grew up in STAINES! Currently I am living the student dream up in Aberdeen. Though now I wish I kinda went to the Guitar Institute....

Which guitar(s) do you own?

White Mexican Fender Strat which is soon to be customized (great playability, but its forever going outta tune and the pickups are pretty weak) AND a lovely Stonebridge DS 40-CM (its too good to describe with mere words!)

Which guitar do you currently play on?
Both

Which amp(s) do you own?
Vox Valvetronix 50Vt (seem to be pretty popular here....good tone and versatility for the money I guess)

For how long have you been playing guitar?
Around 4 years

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?
Hmm I was thinking about this recently and decided that I have no paticular favourite. I guess a slight bias towards Indie/alt rock in terms of bands that I like, but I like many genre's including classical, funk, blues, motown, folk, metal, psychedelic.....I could go on!

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?
Hmm I guess I started with alt rock stuff mainly, but recently fingerstyle guitar is inspiring me (folk, classical and its incorporation into other genres). I also love slicing out some blues and bluesy rock, metal when I want to rock out and some funky licks too!

Who are your favorite bands?
PIXIES - they are my favourite band and while their technical skill is not virtuosic (though david lovering is an awesome drummer) their songs are written and produced so well.....they speak for themselves really.

Libertines - The passion and chemistry between Barat and Doherty made this band great. Both their songwriting skills and ear for a hook (along Barat's excellent sloppy style) helped of course.

Blur/Graham Coxon - I love growing up listening to Blur in my early teens and still do now. Graham Coxon is probably biggest inspriation to play the guitar well, and his solo stuff is just as awesome. He can play so many styles.

I admire many guitarists also for their ability, passion and songcrafting. Off the top of my head Graham of course, Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, BB King, John Squire, Bernard Butler, Thom Yorke/Jonny Greenwood, Bowie, Pete Shelly, Gilmor/ Waters/Barrat....again I could go on.

What inspired you to start playing guitar?
A combination of things really. I have always loved music, and as is probably common with most musicians, I wanted to learn how to make those noises! I was never a big sport fan either; I needed a hobby and playing the guitar was the best way to fill my time. Finally I realised that playing the guitar is probably the thing I enjoy most in my life (well apart from the obvious....ahem) and that what drives me on to keep learning!

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?
Played with a group of friends which was jamming mostly and covering some songs....we had a few recordings too but they sucked (our rehearsal space was an awful coverted garage in Slough, we called it the musk pit.....the smell that used to come out of that place! I am at uni now living with a guy who I jam with and we have written a couple of songs, gonnaget out garage converted into a proper practice space so we can start recruiting a band and get gigging.

Why do you play guitar?
I love it. It is a form of expression that couples itself so beautifully with words. It takes me to an abstract plane......
What are your goals for the future?
To get to the stage (if I am lucky) where all I have to do is play the guitar for a living.

Scott

Nickname:  Bueller....as in Ferris
Real (full) name:  Scott
Age and birthday:  34, Oct 22nd
Habitat: Oklahoma, USA  Land of Tornados and Trailer Parks  (we still roll in covered wagons)

Which guitar(s) do you own?  Poor man's Takamine...S-35

Which guitar do you currently play on?  The only one I have.

Which amp(s) do you own?  I sound bad enough without amplification, thanks

How long have you been playing guitar?  3 weeks

Which is/are your favorite music genre(s)?  Rock in all its forms that don't smack of pop, modern folk (I guess you'd call it), and blues

Which genre do you play on your guitar often?  I play the A chord...and E, and D.  Not so much F.  12 bar blues is coming along, and makes me sound like I know what I'm doing

Who are your favorite bands?   Black Crowes, Alice in Chains, Days of the New...lots of stuff from Danny Gatton to The Cure to Sarah Mclaughlin to SRV to Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, and Chemical Brothers (GASP!)

What inspired you to start playing guitar?  My inability to serenade my wife with a drum kit.

Do you play in a band or have you been playing in a band?  Have played drums...better than average at one point in my life...not at all in the last 12 years

Why do you play guitar?  Music is the best.  My dad grew up playing drums, and got quite good.  Started me down that road early in life and had a HUGE LP collection, from cheezy 60's folk to Hendrix to James Last and everything in between.  What could be better than making music?

What are your goals for the future?  Get good enough in the next year or so to entertain myself, maybe find a mediocre local band that plays on the weekend just because they love playing.  Oh...and learn Across the Universe and Blackbird, 'cause my wife'll love it.
