Title: When and how to start ear training
Post by: Bart on December 22, 2019, 09:15:01 am
Hi Everyone!

I'm curious when the best time to start ear training would be. I'm only on stage 2 of the BC. As far as I can tell, I need to know more of the fretboard before starting. What do you all recommend? Also, what's the best way. The confusing thing for be with the JG stuff is that there's more than one way to do everything. There's a course on the website and there's an app. The website stuff is above my abilities. I might be able to play happy birthday soon enough, but I certainly can't yet. The BC, as you all know, has me on 3 chords so far; learning the second set of 3.

I suppose I have a similar question about music theory, which I'm actually pretty excited about. What's a good moment to start it?

Thanks!
Bart

Ear training starts as part of the  Beginner Course in stage 1.
If you are on stage 2 you skipped the first lesson.

You don't need to know the fret board to begin ear training.
It's about how a note sounds not what its name is. You will also learn
the fret board as you go though the lessons.

Same with music theory. You can start it any time but it will make more
sense once you have all the open chords under you fingers.
It will also be easier to understand if you have the basic ear training done.

I didn't miss it. I was thinking about the Ear Training Course which isn't all free. Thanks!
