Title: Indoctrinate
Post by: digger72 on June 23, 2019, 04:21:36 pm
Hi All,

Been messing for what seems like an age with getting this where we think it holds up. Going a bit stir crazy now - so time to let go.
Borrowed some Sweet Dreams - but what the heck. If the pros can do it - why can't us amateurs?

Something a bit heavier than normal?

Thanks for checking it out and any comments.

Indoctrinate

God signs
On the playground wall
Here little children
Won’t you heed the call?
Here today
Stand the defects high
Well, be reborn
Bring your mind to life

Admiration
It’s a hand me down
You don’t care
Cos you’re lost and found
Got no time for the weak or the blind
Come here little children
Now
You’re
Mine

Chorus

Oh... you... know
There’s... no... better way
Indoctrinate
You’re the victim today
While you’re waiting for the
Hammer to fall
The world keeps turning
You’re just missing the point

Dim lights
Bring the candles of hate
Here stands the preacher
Do you see your fate?
Helter skelter
It’s a mission call
Kill the world
We’ll rise as the ashes fall

A song full of menace and dark overtones ...

Polished production and performances from you both.

Good job on this.

This is as comfortably strange as it comes and I like that strange and comfortable feeling! Give me more.
D&K this could be your best yet. The overall ambience is so appealing, drawing you in to the lyrics of doom and truth, Dark compelling and insatiable. Katja, your vocals are so haunting and magnetic as you spin the well woven lyrics,

Could go on and on but think that sums it up.

Loved it to bits.

Wow. I don't know what you did to this, but you hit it out of the park. I had to go from hearing it through the forum app to SoundCloud so I could like it. Katja sounds better than ever, which is saying a lot. Guitars are nice and heavy. Loved it!

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind words; they prompted me to send to BBC Introducing yesterday, and I'm glad to say they are airing the song tonight on their show, "The Beat." Goes out sometime between 6pm and 8pm gmt on Radio Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.

Which effects are you interested in Lbro?
Guitar, vocal, synths?

Thanks again for the words of encouragement - gives us the courage to send to places like the BBC.

All the best,

Digger

Hi Digger,
Congrats on the upcoming airplay! That is exciting and fantastic!

On effects I would say all 3 but mostly vocals and listed below in order of preference. I hear I think a lot of nice reverb, maybe some delay, on the vocals but there is an "airy" quality too that I can't quite place.
Vocals
Synth
Guitars

Cheers and all the best to you and Katja!

Hi Lbro,

Vocals is 1 track treated several ways:
1 clean track with just Eq and compression. Panned Centre
Clean track feeds into another track mixed very low with an 1/8th note delay. Helps create a bit of space. Panned centre.

Same basic track with lighter compression but a small amount of reverb and 1/4 note delay. This has a spreader which increases as the chorus comes in.  Again panned centre.
This feeds into another reverb - quite large, but mixed low. Panned centre.

Same basic track - pre chorus and chorus only. EQ- Compression - slap delay. Chamber reverb. Spreader during chorus. Small amount of distortion. Panned centre.

All feed to the master vocal track on which I use a small amount of stereo widening.

Basically layer up at various points to build the vocal track as you would the music.

Bought a really nice reverb from Waves - H-reverb. My go to now. Seems less muddy than some.

Synth is Nexus. Also some freeware - Synth 1.

Guitars layered up. Panned left and right
1 overdriven lightly with a bit of delay.
1 overdriven chorus and reverb - double tracked

Bass DI - fairly clean - hint of distortion for some twang.

Cheers,
Digger

Hi Digger and Katja,

late to the party, it happens more often than not :)

This is brilliant, should be played very loud and often.

Thanks for sharing Digger! Kind of complicated, though you wrote it out well. You put some work for sure into the vocals and whole production for that matter and it shows/is heard!

Great stuff and rock on as you journey down the road!
All my best to you and Katja!
