Title: Ever heard of Skunk Radio Live (SRL)?
Post by: Balamuthiah on February 14, 2019, 05:37:54 pm
Hey all,

I just got an email from an apparent Steve from Skunk Radio Live, asking me to audition with my music that he heard. I googled this and the general impression is that this is a scam while a few said it’s legit but it’s not going to change my life any on top of charging me £7 in a further email. Have any of you guys heard of this radio? Is it worth auditioning? It’s apparently based in London. Thank you.

Bala

Never heard of it. But they do have a Facebook page with over 90,000 followers.  My initial impression is that they are legit.  Keep us posted.

Thank you hilts they do have a huge following on social media. They have a neat website too. But the worst thing I read is that any link on their website, even a bands name link will take you to the radios homepage. Haven’t tried it out yet 😁

Okay guys. There’s another radio email. It’s another new indie station called indie radio fm. Their website is indieradiofm.net. Has anybody shared their music to radio stations in general? Is it safe to take the plunge with these submissions?

I'm always sceptical of these things, and Skunk Radio Live seems very suspicious (also according to some quick googling), but indieradiofm looks more legit - at least they don't seem to be asking for money.
Just make sure to thoroughly read and understand their terms and conditions before submitting anything.

Thank you for the reply Fox! And I get what you’re saying and came to similar conclusions about the two stations. I’ve decided against giving anything to skunk radio. But still deciding about Indie radio fm. They do seem a lot more legit. They just sound like they’re new and don’t have a lot of listeners. Their submission process is structured and free. I read their terms and as long as I have copyrights I should be good. :)

What is the point? Does it somehow monetize your music?

I don’t think so but it’ll put it out there for more people to listen. This whole thing is new to me so I don’t know what’s happening honestly:D

What country is it from. If they don't honor copyright law you could find
your music making money any you getting nothing.
If could just be a scam looking for new music without paying or writing it.

That is true. Skunk radio is based in London, England and IndieRadioFm is from the United States. I wonder if one country’s copyright would apply for another as well.

UK and US usually honor each orhers laws and copyrights. It proving you
wrote it if you send if off to  dishonest company and they sell it or rerecord it.

I came across this discussion:

Skunk Radio Live / SRL Networks - another way to part people from their money (https://www.soundonsound.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=47989)

I would avoid it if I were you.

It sounds very much like a scam to me.

Cheers,

Keith

That’s what I thought. There have been countless artists who went to the UK from USA and vice versa. Although copyrights protect intellectual property, it’s definitely a hassle to take these companies to court. :/

Wow! Thank you Keith! Nice find! I’ll definitely avoid sending them my music then! :)
