I wouldn't say a childhood hero but the Monkees were part of my early teens, I'm sure those old TV shows would seem really cheesy these days but they banged out some great tunes that survive to this day.
RIP Pete.

Not a lot on TV in Beirut in 1972, but this 8 year old would religiously kneel in front of our black and white altar with a Philips cassette recorder and microphone, recording the songs when they were performed.
Now that I've made Merseyside my home, it seems appropriate to leave this here  ;)

RIP Pete.

MeTV is running old Monkees episodes featuring Peter on Sunday (February 24) starting at 5PM EST.  I think this channel is only available in the US, both OTA and on cable systems.  They have a station finder on their website, but I'm too new to post links.   :-\

Here's my Monkees song for Peter. I was an adolescent when these guys broke on the scene.  I never missed an episode of their zany TV show. They really did have some nice songs in their catalog. I think this one is very appropriate now.

Anyone who has played in a band will be in mourning.
I just found out Ross Lowell the inventer of Gaffer tape (Gaff Tape)
has passed away at 92.
If you have ever had to tape patch/electrical cords down you will know what
I'm talking about.
If you think duct tape can fix anything you've never used Gaff tape.

I saw Bernie Torme live when he was guitarist with Gillan.
The line-up was Ian Gillan / Bernie Torme / Colin Towns/ John McCoy/ Mick Underwood.
What a band. They rocked and they were loud.
It was the Mr Universe tour at Middlesbrough Town Hall in 1980 or 1981.
Bernie was superb.
A Strat, a Marshall stack and some youthful enthusiasm saw him lift the roof.
RIP Bernie.

I don't know how many years you knew Jeff but I'm privileged to have shared 7 1/2 minutes of his life. I know it's a cliched saying across the pond but I'm truly sorry for your loss. Such vibrant energy and enthusiasm in that clip, you can see Jeff is truly immersed body and soul in that session. And what a fusion .....

California is dreaming along the watch tower on the stairway to heaven.  And that sounds a pretty good place to be, what a genius track mix.

RIP Jeff.

Again big condolences, keep him close to your heart.

Brendan Grace - a great Irish comedian. In my teens I worked in a hotel and he would play gigs there -sometimes he was so funny I had to walk out of the room. Maybe his comedy has aged - but at the time he was one of funniest guys alive. He played Father Stack in Father Ted and he had several memorable quotes - probably the most famous was ' "I've had my fun, and that's all that matters".

Just read that David Berman (Silver Jews) died by suicide in August.
He had just released a new album, Purple Mountains, the month before- after a 10-year hiatus.

Here's one of my favourite songs of all time

"First life takes time, then time takes life
Now the next move's up to me"

Gay Byrne passed away a few days ago - he was a famous chat show host in Ireland - he is best remembered for hosting The Late Late Show for 30 years - I cannot think of anyone who was more highly regarded in our country - he played a huge part in the transformation of our country from the 60s to the end of the 90s. This is a clip from a tribute show to him  - which included contributions from Bono, Bob Geldof and Michael Higgins (the President of Ireland). The clip is of a gathering of musicians that will probably never gather together again  - it includes members of The Chieftains, The Dubliners, The Corrs, Hot House Flowers, Finbarr Furey, Sharon Shannon, Donal Lunny and many more:

@ Paraic

As Christy sang:
"Ah no not Christy Moore, we've seen him loads of times before. We'll miss Gay Byrne and the Late Late Show!"

It's almost impossible for non-Paddies to appreciate the influence this man had on a country.
I had the pleasure of chatting to him on his morning radio show back in '98  :)

Lucky you Brian - he was legend. I guess the most important lesson I took from growing up with the Late Late is that we have the right the to question and debate any opinion or dogma - regardless of who is saying or promoting it.

Not a good day.

Not a chefy person but my wife liked GR and such a loss at 59.

Clive James was epic cynicism, loved his work.

Jonathon Miller had a rapier whit.

Iain Sutherland, apart from Sailing, with Sutherland Brothers and Quiver Arms of Mary would have been a classic for folks of a certain age.

Boy feeling old yet again.  8)

Loved Roxette in the 80’s. Also the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver in the 70’s. Man do I feel old! The 70’s 80’s were just a few years ago weren’t they?

Might not mean a lot to many folks here but song writer and 7th Python - on the Monty variety - and Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band Neil Innes passed yesterday.

Some memorable songs for Bonzo (if your old enough) and many hilarious songs for Monty Python.

Just two

Python

For the oldies

Haha. Yes I can remember them performing Urban Spaceman on Top of the Pops! Great song!
If my memory serves me well, I think Paul McCartney was involved in the production.
