I found this video on youtube and I find it very interesting so I thought I'd share it with you.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was doing my own little stretches before each practice, but nothing as good as this. I will incorporate it into my daily routine, and am sure it will pay dividends.

I use this one as well. I also use a stress ball to help to strenghten my finger muscles. It is a soft squigey rugby shaped ball that fits in the hand and you press each finger in and go against the resistence. Helps if like me you have arthritis in your fingers.

I'm revalidating after breaking my wrist last December, and these exercises are very similar to what my physiotherapist makes me do. I know the guy says it in the video, but I think it needs more emphasis that you need to be careful with these stretches. Don't expect to flex your fingers as far as he does in the video!

I find shaking my hands and getting the blood flowing before stretching helps prevent that stiff feeling. Afterwards they are nice and "lubricated" before going into warmup scales, etc.

For me, it takes about 15 minutes to a half hour to get really warmed up.  I start with a song like The Trooper because it really gets the blood moving in my hands/forearms.  Stretching seems to be more important for my forearm muscles than the individual fingers.

Important tips though, stretching is important.  Ice afterwards can be equally important depending on how warm you actually got during practice.

@ Endureth

A bass playing friend of mine posted a video for a great warm up.
Hopefully I'll be able to find it and come back here to share it.
