How about Thumbing up/Applauding/Liking/Thank posts?

Often when I read through threads on the forum I see good posts or posts I really agree with, or funny posts, and I would like to tell the poster that in some way, other than making a new post just to say "I liked that post", since it makes the thread harder to read.

Like the applaud-system, but for posts.

Under the post it could say "Marcusmarkmus thanks for this post." or "Likes this posts" etc.

I dont know how much work that would be to arrange, just thought I'd share my thoughts! :)

If there was such a function i would use it. It seems like quite a good idea and i cant see any flaws in it. Nice one marcusmarkmus, a very good idea

I agree, something like that would be nice. From the other side as well, knowing whether or not what you wrote actually helps people.

It looks like this Website is using SMF 1.1.16. I don't know if it's available in the earlier SMF version but FWIW I run a Website with SMF 2.0.1 and it's a core feature in that version that simply needs to be enabled in the administrator console.

TB-AV. I've had it up for about 4 months. It's been stable. I hesitate to say that it's safe because I'm not an IT security expert, and I don't believe that anything on the Internet is safe ;)
So far, I have zero down-time and my database seems secure.

Looking back at the original post, I should double-check that the karma system in 2.x does exactly what the OP is asking. (I think I may have slightly misunderstood the question.)
The version that I'm running has a karma system with some configurable parameters, but I want to make certain that it has the exact parameters that the OP asked for.
I'll get back to ya shortly...

TB-AV. I double-checked the karma feature in my board. The feature only calculates karma points and lists total points - not "per post"

What Marcus means is a feature that gives users the option to mark a specific post as helpful/funny/agreed with.
A sort of 'thumbs up' feature for individual posts.

@ TB : V2 of SMF is no better or worse for security, really.

Yeah.. Thanks. The SMF plug-in that I listed below appears to do just that, but is apparently not compatible with SMF versions prior to 2.0. Sorry.

I'm pretty sure I know what Marcus is talking about vBulletin has it.

What it does is flag various posts and names who likes it. then it sends info to that persons profile. I personally don't like any of that stuff but I know Justin does and he likes to keep track of things. Now changing the forum just for that.... I doubt it. If there were a simple plug-in he might add it though.

I'm pretty sure that in a while support for 1.1.6 will cease, and by that time we'll be moved to 2.0 or whatever is stable then.
Because after that code injection incident a while back Justin has probably gotten more security conscious...
