Thriller Scone In D Min.. err A min?
« on: August 06, 2011, 05:41:48 am »
Hi,

We just went through the Jam Blues CD, tracks nice. My son Will solo'ed to a few then we started playing a game where he guessed the key.

He as strongly maintained that the "A Sad Minor" was really "B Sad Minor"... his ear is way better than mine, then I found the post above.

He also maintains that "Thriller Scone In D Min" is really "Thriller Scone In A Min"?

Will has a great ear and I'm thinking he may be correct.

Thanks
Paul

Weird, I'd shifted the positions to play licks over Thriller Scone in Dm and it seemed to work.

Notes in Am pentatonic A C D E G.

Notes in Dm pentatonic D F G A C

Notes in common A C D G

So unless you linger on that F in a really bad place you'll most likely get away with it

I was looking at the licks I was playing, most were Position 1, 2 and 4 in Dm and the corresponding Positions in Am and noticed 4 out of 5 were good noted to play. I still suck naming the notes that I'll be playing. I can now look at a fretboard and "see" Position 1-5 in Am. From there I can see Pos 1 in another key and then work out the other 4.

Looking at a map of the neck I was highlighting Am notes and circling Dm notes and started getting that "I have soooo much to learn" feeling. "I know the positions, if I had a guitar I'd be fine, I know the positions, if I had a guitar I'd be fine, I know the positions, if I had a guitar I'd be fine..."

Glad I found this info, those are my two favorites of all the jam tracks and this morning I just couldn't get the chord progression to sound right ...
