Hi Justin,

First of all, thanks for your considerable help - can't believe how much I've developed in less than a year - even my missus will listen (till i rip in to Seek and Destroy.)

Anyhow, I'm thinking of buying some recording gear, just to mess around with really - nothing too serious. I've been looking at the Mbox 2 but not sure whether to go for the standard, pro or pro factory. Any suggestions?

I just want to lay down 2 or 3 guitar parts and some vocals for my own entertainment

All the best.

Steve

ps - can you put Phantom of the Opera (Maiden) in a forthcoming vote?

Hey, I'm wondering if Guitar Rig is a good buy for recording. I've been thinking about purchasing it but I wouldn't mind some advice from a pro.

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi all

I just need a bit of help regarding M-Audio's Fast Track.

I have Windows Vista and the Pro Tools software that comes with it doesn't work with Vista.

Does anyone know EXACTLY which recording software does work with Fast Track on Windows.

I have Adobe Soundbooth and Audacity....are either of these compatible?

I need to know before Xmas so any help would be brill!

Best wishes
Steve

I'm fairly certain Audacity works. Why don't you just try it? Start it, go to Edit > Preferences > Devices and you'll know for certain.

Dear JRH....even I am now confused...perhaps I should have worded my question a bit better...

so here goes....phase 2 in which Doris gets her oats!

I am thinking of buying a M-Audio Fast Track 2 to record vocals and guitar. I have very little money to spend so this seemed to be the best option. I would like to get it for myself for Xmas.

I have a proper computer, ie a PC running Vista. But there is a problem with the accompanying software (Something called Pro Tools!!), it apparently doesn't work on a proper OS like Vista! Why that is I don't know and I am not interested to find out either.

Therefore I was wondering if anyone knew what other recording software (preferably opensource) does work with Fast Track that is compatible with Vista.

I hope that I have made myself clear.

All the best
Steve

I actually got that the first (well, second) time around ;)

I noticed that little gap in the system requirements for the specific Pro Tools version between XP and 7. Btw: Pro Tools is the de-facto standard for DAWs (though there are countless versions on the market). Since I have neither the interface nor Vista (my PCs have the same OS gap), I can't really help and I'm hoping somebody here knows from experience what this is all about.

Other than that, have you tried giving M-Audio a call? Sometimes, lack of OS support comes from rather ridiculous little problems that might not even affect you. Might be worth a try.

Cheers

Jack

Hi TB-AV

Thanks for the lead... but I don't have any more dough to spend on software....

It's the hardware (M-Audio Fast Track) I am more interested in and whether it works on a Vista PC with Audacity at a minimum.

Reaper is free to try and $60 thereafter when you decide to buy it. It is on par with most professional DAW software.

Go to M-audio site and look at the driver downloads. Do they have a driver that supports Vista.

Hi all
Just a quick update.

I got Fast Track and it works quite nicely with Adobe Soundbooth on Vista.
